Did I ever tell you why I love flying so much? Flying is the perfect allegory for how I live my life. Check it. From the moment the plane takes off until it lands safely at the designated destination I have ceded my control over my own safety. The only control I retain is how I apply my time (do I sleep the trip away or apply my time in a more proactive manner?) and my attitude toward turbulence (does every jolt signify impending doom or will it smooth out as it almost always does?). Flying reminds me to enjoy the ride, use my time wisely, and not allow a few bumps to ruin my short trip. When I fly, I let go completely. Such a freeing feeling!
So on the flight from JFK to San Jose (a flight I made with less than two minutes to spare, btw), I had two primary goals: finish reading SELLOUT, and draft the basic skeleton of the SELLOUT marketing plan. Reading and marketing–two of my favorite passions! The six hours zipped by.
Steph picked me up at the airport and I promptly began downloading my thoughts on SELLOUT. The book was damn good, but some character tweaks needed to be made in order to take it from a good book to a great book. As we got closer to Santa Cruz, I hoped I would be able to sway James to go back in and rewrite certain passages. This was crucial, because ideas of how to market his masterful work were flooding my brain.
Now that I had confirmed the extreme quality of the product, I needed everything to line up. It was marketing plan time. Time to do what I do!
