New J.O.B. less T.I.M.E for TPC

by Omar on April 23, 2010

I consider time to be my most valued asset.  Time is finite and fickle.  You never know how much you’ve got left so it behooves you to maximize it.

Now, I’ve always been something of a master multi-tasker.  Compared to Prez. Obama I probably look like a slacker, but I do pretty well for myself.  Multi-tasking is a lot like those guys and gals you’ve seen spinning like 20 plates at a time.

In January I was spinning a job I was soon to leave, rewrites on my debut novel, and TPC.

In February I dropped the job, added a girlfriend, started a 10 week novel writing class, and threw in a few random spoken word performances, including my first feature at a Black History Month event at Manhattanville College. (good looking Devon!) Man, those days were great! Spending plenty of QT with my lady, going to bed late and waking up even later, working out, happy hours in the noon time, and time to spare for taking care of TPC business.

Fast forward to April. I’ve started a new job in a new industry. I’m super excited about this opportunity to come into a company with a great concept, and help take it to the next level. But my life has to change. Overnight.

Now I’m waking up at 6:30am to try to work out, then driving 49 miles to Nyack, NY, busting my ass until 7pm or so, and driving back home. The novel writing class is thankfully off my plate, but I’ve got more work than ever to do to get ONE BLOOD in shape for publication in 2011. MY QT with my honey has been more than cut in half (not acceptable), and TPC business is starting to really heat up as we begin to move into the pre-print and pre-marketing phase. We’re launching and maintaining TPC TV, TPC FLICKR, facebook, and Twitter. We’re talking to lawyers, tax advisors, PR professionals, logo designers, and promotional give-away vendors to name a few. We are registering for book expos and conferences to get ready to start selling SELLOUT in June…WHEW!

I realized while composing this blog that I have so many things to master, but I must master myself and my use of time before I can effectively serve any of them. Time to reprioritize, reorganize, and realize that I’m only one man with 24 hours to give to the world. But an idea just occurred to me…what if I give up sleep? :)
